Our products are formulated from whole foods and food concentrates with the intention of delivering nutrients that are bio-active, the way Mother Nature made them. Non-Vegetarian Ingredients in The Missing Link,
for Companion Animals
(Avian, Canine, Canine Plus and Feline)
Bone Meal (Avian, Canine, Canine Plus and Feline)
General: Bone meal comes from beef and is a biological source of calcium, magnesium, zinc and other minerals that improve overall health. It provides protection against bone degeneration.
Source: Our "bone meal" is of the highest quality freeze-dried beef bone. It comes from range-fed beef. It is pharmaceutical grade, and free of "Mad Cow Disease" -BSE
Benefits: Maintains bone health and provides protection against bone degeneration.
Fish Meal (Avian, Canine, Canine Plus and Feline)
General: Used in animal formulations not only for palatability, but because fish proteins are a natural and good source of vitamin B12, and essential amino acids such as methionine and taurine. Methionine is an amino acid that is responsible for skin, nails and hair, and it regulates formation of ammonia-free urine.
Source: Our "fish meal" is a high quality, human-grade, freeze-dried cod fish protein. There are no preservatives added, and it is ethoxyquin free.
Benefits: Important for growth and maintenance of the immune, nervous, and digestive systems and the urinary tract. The amino acid taurine supports good vision, and methionine helps to prevent the build up of fats in the liver (detoxification).
Glucosamine (Canine Plus and Equine Plus)
General: The source of glucosamine that we use in our products is chitin, derived from crustaceans and not from bovines (cows). Glucosamine is a naturally occurring substance found in cartilage that stimulates the production of collagen, the protein that helps hold joints together. It is believed to help with degenerative arthritis. However, because there have been no trials conducted on safety of glucosamine in dog diets, one of AAFCO's requirements is that products with glucosamine for dogs state on their label the following: Not recognized as an essential nutrient by the AAFCO dog and cat food nutrient profiles. AAFCO does not allow the use of glucosamine in cat products at all.
Source: We use only the finest and highest purity grade of glucosamine hydrochloride. In the past we used glucosamine sulfate. However, AAFCO does not approve the use of glucosamine sulfate for dogs, and we have reformulated our Missing Link7 Plus. We used glucosamine HCI in doses that are recommended and approved by members of AAFCO's regulatory committee.
Benefits: Essential fatty acids in our supplements, when coupled with glucosamine help reduce pain and inflammation. Therefore, they support joint health.
Liver (Avian, Canine, Canine Plus and Feline)
General: The liver stores vitamins and minerals for the body. It is an excellent source of iron, vitamins A and B1, folic acid, panthotenic acid, and several other B vitamins. It is a good source of amino acids, including methionine and taurine. Studies show that diets high in methionine might help to prevent kidney stone formation.
Source: We use human-edible, freeze-dried beef liver. It is USDA approved, and free of "Mad Cow Disease" - BSE.
Benefits: Adds palatability and supports overall health.
Oyster (Canine, Canine Plus and Feline)
General: Used as dietary source of protein, including amino acids methionine, cystine, leucine, phenylalanine, valine, etc. It contains several B vitamins including B12. It is a good source of minerals such as calcium, selenium and zinc.
Source: Human-edible, high-quality, freeze-dried oysters.
Benefits: Primarily included in the pet formulas for palatability. It is a rich source of zinc known to help with wound healing and healthy skin.
Whey Protein (Avian only)
General: Proteins are the major building blocks of our whole body. The only thing the body has more of than protein is water. Whey protein is an animal-based protein, rich in calcium (which are the building "blocks" of all protein molecules). The form of whey protein we use is high in peptides (short chains of amino acids). It is easily digestible and more easily absorbed than whole protein.
Source: We use 80% whey protein concentrate.
Benefits: Promotes healthy bone and muscle structure. Proteins repair tissues and support the immune system.
